The Epic of Zektbach (ゼクトバッハ叙事詩, zekutobahha jojishi) is a multimedia project authored by Tomosuke "Zektbach" Funaki and licensed by Konami Digital Entertainment, centered around classical-electronic musical compositions.

Multimedia nature[]

The Epic of Zektbach is not a single comprehensive storyline, but rather a piecewise concept arranged across various materials. In addition to music, which forms the basis of this arrangement, the narration itself is laid out through promotional videos (PVs), drama CDs, an OVA, and the written booklets accompanying them. Additionally, a now-defunct website once served as promotional material, and Nyoah, the Epic's narrator, held a now-inactive Q&A Twitter account.

Concept and themes[]

The Epic of Zektbach is set in a fantasy world named Aria Te'Laria, and successively follows the lives of characters living in different times and places across multiple decades or even centuries, through a chapter format, roughly divided into two arcs, covered in the Ristaccia and Masinowa albums respectively.

The main driving force of the overarching story is Ristaccia, a gemstone with the property of bringing non-sentient beings self-awareness, and imbuing sentient beings with supernatural powers.

The themes of the Epic of Zektbach are mostly gnostic in nature, with some influence from Christianity (Ristaccia) as well as Shinto and Buddhism (Masinowa); more widely speaking, it is an "RPG-esque" story adhering to many classical Japanese fantasy tropes.

Chapter List of The Epic of Zektbach[]

There are eight numbered chapters in the Epic of Zektbach. Gaiden, (外伝, lit. "another story"), following the story of Gijiri, is most often considered to be part of Chapter 5.

Due to the Epic of Zektbach's premature discontinuation around 2014, Chapters 7 and 8 are left mostly unwritten.
