Dorukuma

Dorukuma is a contagious illness that emerged in the Holy Kingdom of Noigllado sometime around Melius 150, and which progressively degrades the human mind until all sentience is lost, leaving those affected to wander aimlessly, possibly spreading the illness further. It is also shown, in at least one case, to cause slow disfiguration over the span of a few years.

The illness finds its origins in the forceful displacement of Malchut from the island of Turii in Melius 143, as a consequence of the "butterfly effect" resulting from the rupture in the balance of the natural world.

Because the King of Noigllado was unable to contain the 150 Dorakuma epidemic, he decided to gather all victims and exile them at sea. They eventually reached Fallarien, and, after regaining sentience through contact with the Spring of Lourdes, branched into a separate civilization centered around its worship.

Six hundred years later, at the time of Chapter 3, Rouven is known to have found a cure for Dorukuma. Its efficacy is never tested, however, because the only known person to have developed the illness in that time, Lyudmil, is deemed not worth saving by Agiona.
